Interview with Ereen Toh

Ereen Toh

Founder, Stirring Hearts Pte Ltd

1) Why did you choose to become an entrepreneur and what do you love most about the work you do?

I chose the road of an entrepreneur as it is my dream to build my own business especially in the area of my passion. I enjoy the freedom to chart my own course and learning through a dynamic environment.

It was a dream come true when we received $50,000 under the SPRING Singapore Young Entrepreneurs Scheme to kick off our business full-time. Today, Stirring Hearts’ range of products include handmade greeting cards and gifts which serves the retail, wedding and corporate market. Stirring Hearts also runs creative workshops for statutory boards, companies, unions, schools and non-profit organisations.

2) What is one memorable experience you’ve had with making cards for clients?

For a project we worked with 30 trainees who had intellectual disability from a non-profit organization to mass produce 700 cards. In the course of working with them, we were very impressed by their determination to finish every card with excellence despite the limitations they faced. The completed card was a display of their unwavering perseverance. It was a life lesson for my team and the volunteers.
3) With stiff competition around, how do you ensure customers keep coming back to you ?

We always ask for feedback and have an open ear to listen to the needs of our customers, and how we can serve them better. From the testimonials that they have written on our website www.StirringHearts.com.sg, I believe they are drawn by our unique products, ability to personalise cards to their needs and sincere service.

4) What are some of the joys and sorrows of entrepreneurship that you have experienced?

I take heart in watching Stirring Hearts grow through every success, big or small. Every milestone means a lot to us. We were overjoyed when our cards were featured in Mediacorp Channel 8 & Channel U Prime Time News, and in the Straits Times. Our efforts pay off when our cards and gifts put a smile on someone’s face.

As long as Stirring Hearts is growing, I wouldn’t say that there are sorrows. We encounter new challenges and we take it on with a fighting spirit. I see it as a continuous process of learning and improving.
5) What do you envision your life and business will be like 5 years from now?

While it is not that easy to predict in an ever-changing climate, my overall aspiration for Stirring Hearts and myself is to grow to our best capacities to serve our stakeholders better. I look forward to having Stirring Hearts play a more active role in supporting social causes.
