The ULTIMATE food blogging experience – OKK vegetarian food factory JB & LOTUS vegetarian restaurant Singapore

Have you ever tried a vegetarian meal and wondered how the yummy mock meat is made? Well, I did. And I went all the way to Johor Bahru to check out the factory before coming back to Singapore and enjoying a delicious vegetarian meal! :)

I visited OKK’s factory in JB:

They make mock meat products such as these vegetarian crab and prawn products:

There are even products like vegetarian otak-otak! Unbelievable!

Had to put on these boots among other things, before entering the factory’s production area:

Me, Justin & Amanda all properly attired:

Couldn’t take any pics of the production line ‘cos it’s sensitive business info. But I can tell you it was hot hot hot in there, and then freezing cold in the storage area. Everything was really clean and the smell of the food being produced was oh-so-good, that I was literally ravenous by the time we left the factory.

I made it known that I was really hungry about every 5 mins or so after we left. :D I’d have loved to eat in JB but Justin said it wasn’t safe so we headed back to Singapore and over to Quality Hotel, where his mother’s restaurant, LOTUS Vegetarian Restaurant, is.

What was too remarkable was this mock Sharks Fin Soup which tasted SO MUCH like the real thing (ok, maybe people might have been feeding me fake sharks fin soup before! Ha! But this is so good!)

Veg. shark’s fin soup with crab strips $15/$20/$28

Fried tofu with seaweed $8/$12/$16

This next dish came wrapped like an aluminium foil balloon. Which was later pierced and cut open:

Ta-dah!!!

All sizzling and yummy goodness! Veg. snow fish in hot plate $12/piece

The snow fish is made from wheat. Totally unbelievable. Tastes so good with the chilli and lime. Yumz.

Worth ordering too:

1) If you’re a brinjal fan like me – Brinjal with bean sauce $8/$12/$16

2) Herbal chicken in claypot $12/$18/$22

What I loved about the vegetarian meal was that it was filling (yes, I did feel full after the meal), but my stomach didn’t feel heavy (like it usually does after a meal which has meat in it).

Hungry yet?

Head to LOTUS Vegetarian Restaurant at Quality Hotel, 201 Balestier Road, #02-00.

A big thank you to Justin for his kind reception that day; what with the factory tour and also the yummilicious lunch. :)
